active retreat. As the home expansion took shape, the yard kept asking for more. Pool, glass porch, and patio were followed by veranda, poolhouse, and fire pit. Semi-tropical landscaping sealed the deal, garnering the nickname “Resort Rocky Mount”.

softening edges. A land of steeply-angled gables and rough clay bricks begged for curved lines and organic forms. A three-ring pool sets the stage for sweeping arcs in the surrounding walls, patios, and seating groups. Flowing marble floors and large-scale plantings bridge curve and angle, returning a more human effect.

retaining cultivation. The collaborating landscape architect agreed with a two-level terraced wall design to ease the transition from pool deck to surrounding topography. The resulting curved structures provide generous beds for his lush plant selections.
